Unpacking Maine's Rising Health Insurance Costs

  • Healthcare Purchaser Alliance 366 U.S. 1, Suite 3 Falmouth, ME, 04105 United States (map)

Over the last decade, health insurance premiums in Maine have swelled by 52%, with employers and consumers absorbing a majority share of the increase. For consumers, the average annual individual deductible in Maine has grown by 31% in the last 10 years to $2,337, which is the 8th highest nationwide. At the same time, the generosity of benefits has been steadily cut back, ultimately equating to getting less for more.

At our upcoming event on February 26th, we’ll dig into the data behind these increasing costs to better understand what’s driving them, what we can expect to see in the coming years, and on what specific areas purchasers and policymakers should be focusing their attention. Join us for presentations from the Superintendent of the Maine Bureau of Insurance, Bob Carey, and HPA’s Director of Data Analytics, Sara Fitzgerald. This will be a great presentation for anyone interested in better understanding the driving forces behind premium growth.
