We’re here to help
Employer members of the Healthcare Purchaser Alliance are leaders in adopting value-based purchasing principles that reduce costs, mitigate trends, and improve benefits for employees and family members. Leveraging a national network of innovators and evidence-based research, the HPA helps plan sponsors identify the what, how, and why behind an effective health benefit strategy.
In addition to group purchasing programs with high-value vendors, the Healthcare Purchaser Alliance provides a suite of services to members. These include:
RFP Assistance
The HPA offers RFP guidance to ensure our members contract with the best healthcare partners under transparent, value-based terms. Members have access to toolkits on pharmacy benefits management (PBM) services, third-party administrators (TPAs), and brokers/consultants.
New Vendor Guidance
Considering a new point solution? We can help. The HPA has extensive experience evaluating vendors and point solutions, and we can offer insights that help to minimize risk and maximize impact. We can also help connect you with other purchasers who may have already used a given vendor to get honest feedback from peers in your market.
In addition, HPA conducts in-depth evaluations and validates a variety of vendor solutions, and we negotiate 100% transparent contract terms that deliver better rates and terms so purchasers can be confident they are adopting programs that deliver for their employees and their families.
Advocacy & Representation
One of the key reasons purchasers join the Alliance is because they understand that purchasers are stronger when they speak with one voice. With over a quarter of the commercially-insured lives in the state, the HPA represents the interests of our members in the Legislature along with other key healthcare stakeholder groups. The HPA keeps plan sponsors informed about changes in healthcare policy and advocates for fixes that support businesses, employees, and the health of Maine’s people and economy.
Data Analytics
The HPA receives claims data on over 130,000 commercially insured lives. This data allows us to benchmark members against similar organizations on metrics like medical and pharmacy trend, utilization, disease burden, and demographics. Alliance members have the option of enhancing their membership with custom analytics on their organization’s employee population and key cost drivers. Our dedicated analysts provide insights into the factors driving your trends, and they help to identify strategies your organization can pursue to lower overall healthcare costs.
Professional Development & Networking
Members have access to all HPA programming and events, which are not only excellent learning experiences but also networking opportunities to connect with fellow purchasers, brokers, providers, legislators, affiliates, and other stakeholders in our membership. Events occur throughout the year, a calendar of upcoming events can be found, here.
WHAT OUR MEMBERS HAVE TO SAY
“Some may wonder why Prudential, a Global Fortune 500 company, works with a small Maine-based nonprofit on their healthcare strategy, but the fact is that the Alliance team is leading innovation nationally. There are parts of their PBM and TPA contracting toolkits that every Fortune 500 company should consider taking advantage of today.”
Andy Gregg, VP of Employee Benefits, Prudential
“The Alliance occupies a unique role in the employee benefits ecosystem by serving as a transparent resource for purchasers trying to evaluate health plan strategies. Every plan sponsor employer should be leveraging a trusted, independent resource like the Alliance.”
